Deep Thought –
Easy to install, works over long distances, internet accessible
So many other ‘connected’ devices have difficulty with distances. I had a Z-Wave based system that was unreliable because nodes would randomly disconnect due to poor signal strength due to distance or interference (every time it rained, my system went down). YoLink uses LoRa technology which has fantastic range capability up to 1/4 mile and this solves the disconnection problem completely. They integrate Semtech’s LoRa RF Module. Everything is ultra low power so sensors can run on batteries for many, many months. The whole YoLink system depends on a YoLink hub, that receives/transmits LoRa signals from/to various sensors and actuators. The hub is connected to the internet through your WiFi or ethernet system. An app, residing on your smartphone, is used to control and monitor all devices connected to the hub and even tells you how each sensors battery is doing. I have several YoLink modules (garage door kit, moisture sensor, motion sensor, siren). They have all been VERY easy to set up. I would say that compared to other technologies (ZigBee, Z-Wave, …) Yo Link’s implementation using LoRa paired with their app has greatly reduced issues with initial setup. The garage door controller kit took all of about 5 minutes to install and test. The garage is detached from my house and is a bit of hike from the house. The LoRa radio shows ‘good’ signal availability at the hub in spite of the distance. I simply could not have done this with almost any other technology. The app is integrated with with IFTTT which allows you to create smart automations that can integrate with the Alexa personal assistant. This is a very nice capability to have. I had one small issue with the motion sensor (setting the sensitivity) and was really pleased with how quickly and efficiently their technical support dealt with that minor issue. We were having some work done at our house and a contractor had stored material in the garage. I was able to remotely open the garage to give him access to the material and then remotely close the garage when he was finished. The app also warns you when the garage door has been left open after a timeout. If you’re the kind of person who worries about whether you shut the stove off, you’ll appreciate the YoLink Garage Kit (door position sensor, door opener Controller). The controller is, in essence, an app controlled relay that emulates pressing the button that usually opens the garage door. It’s foolproof! The modules are made of good quality plastic and some are even weather sealed (moisture sensor for example). My experience with YoLink has been excellent. The LoRa radio modules do exactly what YoLink says they do: allow communication over long distances that other technologies cannot deal with. Low power is another very critical feature of their modules. It means you don’t have to change batteries very often. My system has been ultra reliable and easy to use. I admit, though, that some of the messages that the app shows are not what anyone would call ‘grammatically correct English’. Also, the colors (pastel shades) chosen for the graphics in the app are low contrast and difficult to see in bright sunlight. Overall, I give YoLink 5 stars. Great apps, great prices, great support, great features. It just works!

*UPDATED* FANTASTIC ! It just works. First Impression: Easy setup, fast responses
Update after several months:These properly alerted when the sump pump failed during recent heavy rains and water started rising. One sensor was submerged while we bailed with buckets, then it continued to operate after. The battery in the submerged unit needed to be replaced, but it was working well for 6 months. When added to my iPhone as a priority notification, I received notice at night through the “sleep” mode of my watch. So far – so good.I bought the hub, water sensor 1 multi-pack to monitor an area in the basement; and a plug with plans to automate an auxiliary pump. Out the box, the products appear well made and reasonably sturdy. The setup process was simple; and the app is quite intuitive. I am using the Ethernet interface to avoid dependencies on WiFi. Communications with sensors appears nearly instant at my operating distance of about 30 feet – binding the sensor to the hub: click, done. The water sensor 1 device is well designed. With sensors on top or two on bottom it easily detected water once enough water was present between contacts – that was a few drops for the testing on top and a bit more, but still a small amount for the floor/bottom tests. The status returned to normal within seconds of drying off the sensor. The plug turns on/off promptly – and the app integration thoughtfully includes both basic scheduled and timer events.App features and SMS messages make notification simple. In my situation of monitoring for leaks, the few included SMS are more than enough. Integration with Alexa was simple. The online manuals in the support web site are detailed and easy to read. While it wasn’t necessary to go beyond the printed Quick Start to use the sensor/plug, the details in the online manual would have answered most question easily.

Easy to pair and monitor
I tested the sensors with a damp cloth, these are very sensitive and loud. The pairing is very easy and the app is easy to use.The sensors come with batteries included. I was scared at first that this was a single use sensor since I didnât see screws or a way to open the sensor. I found out there are screws hidden at the bottom so you can take out and replace the battery. Perfect!!!Update: Already detected a leak. Good product!!

Brought Yolink smart home starter kit with audio alarm from Yosmart. Solid built, easy setup. Hope the battery will last 5 years.

This took around 10 minutes to set up, very intuitive. Extremely good value and I now have a sensor in laundry, 2 baths, and kitchen which at least gives some peace of mind. I tested it with alerts and the sensor flashes on the unit but also sends email. Very impressed. I have Sinope and they are the similar quality but the price would only buy one unit!

Bought this set a few year’s ago. And still, every thing is working well.Pros – response time is great, drip water on sensor and I get a notification on my phone near instantly! Battery life is great, a couple years on and they are working great, I test them a few times a year to be sure. Hackable, I opened one up an soldered on some wires to extend the sense location, I put a little piece of sponge on the end of a twisted pair of wires, tinned for corrosion resistance, and I was able to position it at a level just above my sump pump water level, if my sump pump fails I should be notified if the level rises another inch or so. These sensors worked so well I branched out to other devices. I now have the garage door sensor and controller and the temp/humidity sensor. The hub even acts as a power sensor as when the power goes out the hub goes offline and I get a notification.Cons – the app is a little weird, but not bad. Just not super intuitive. But I have managed to get everything set up on my phone, and my wife’s phone (Apple phones, I don’t have android experience with the app.
