  1. Steven Aikens

Solid construction and easy use with Ring and Alexa
I love that it’s a combo alarm so I don’t need two separate alarms. It’s great, solid quality. I had no issues adding it to my Ring alarm and Alexa. Two AA batteries is also nice; no having to use a traditional 9V that no one ever has at home. I would definitely get more of this unit in the future if needed.

  2. Silicon Valley Engineer

    Paired easily with Ring Security
The First Alert Smoke and CO detector paired easily with my Ring security base unit. My only minor complaint is this version (Z Wave) uses a very similar but different mounting plate from the non-Z Wave version I was replacing. It actually fits the old plate but does not lock properly. The good news is the mounting screws are in the same position in both plates, so swapping them was not difficult. I had zero false alarms with the previous version after almost five years. I will report back if I experience any false alarms with this new Z-version, which has been reported as an issue in other reviews. A few days in and no problems to report.

    Work Great with Ring
I have some older 1 generation models and I can say one big improvement with these second generation models is the super fast pairing time. It was way easier to pair these! Also really nice to be using these vs. the smoke alarm listener with ring. If you have a ring alarm these are 100% what you should use.

    Works with Home Assistant
Mostly works fine. I was actually looking for a Zigbee Smoke/CO detector, but this Z-Wave unit was all I could find. So I had to set up a Z-Wave network alongside my existing Zigbee network. One issue I had at first is that I seemed to have to try repeatedly to get the unit to be connected to Home Assistant; this could take 30 ~ 40 minutes. I realized later that I simply had to wait. It does not show up in Home Assistant right away, but if you just wait 5 – 10 minutes it appears.I also had one unit out of eight that mis-fired; repeatedly giving me a false alarm, so I had to replace..

  5. Andy Beals

My only complaint is that First Alert hasn’t kept a consistent mount size
A First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide detector – that integrates in with Ring as soon as it’s powered up – pop into the Ring app, accept the device, and configure where it is. Easy-peasy, lemon squeeze. It’s nice to be able to peek into the house and see that the alarm is quiet.Mounting on the ceiling was as easy as could be expected – you’re on a step-stool, working upside-down, trying to drive a pair of screws into the ceiling. A paper template would have been nice to include.

    NEEDS IMPROVEMENT!
I have to give this product a 1 star review. I appreciate smart alarms more than most people, but the broken process with these makes me so incredibly angry. We had a mower running near our open garage door and the garage door CO alarm went off. We were home and IMMEDIATELY disabled the alarm from the app.My phone was on silent and I missed the Ring Monitoring call. APPARENTLY unless you disable the alarm from a keypad it doesn’t stop the monitoring call and emergency dispatch. I returned the call in 1 minute according to my cell phone records and made sure they canceled it.THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STILL SHOWED UP 🙃 SAYING RING’S POLICY WAS TO PROCEED WITH DISPATCH. WHAT!?!I do not want to waste the fire departments time or be a bother to my neighbors. What a bad joke of a process and service.I called the Ring Community number and they said this has been brought up before but nothing has been done about it. Why not add a pop up notification, saying must disarm on keypad to cancel dispatch? Why have that anyway? Also what about the whole it is Ring’s policy to dispatch even if you ask to cancel? So disappointed.

    Best replacement period!
This is the best replacement you can buy. It’s so easy to install and it work with the Ring Security system. It’s nice not having the alarm go off every time I make toast. What a game changer.

Smart Protection & Peace of Mind for My Home
The **First Alert Battery Powered Z-Wave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm** has been an excellent addition to my smart home setup. It integrates seamlessly with my Z-Wave system, allowing me to receive real-time alerts on my phone whenever smoke or CO levels are detected. The installation was super easy — no wiring, just pop in the batteries and mount it on the ceiling. One of my favorite features is the dual protection for both smoke and carbon monoxide, which gives me peace of mind knowing my family is protected. The battery-powered design makes it versatile to install anywhere without worrying about electrical connections. The battery life has also been impressive so far! This alarm has already integrated smoothly with my smart home hub and has been reliable without any false alarms. I love how I can check the status remotely and even get notifications when the battery is running low. For anyone looking for a reliable, smart-enabled smoke and CO detector, this is an excellent choice!

Arrived in one day! This unit works great with VeraPlus running the latest firmware as of this time, and is very easy to add to controller. It shows up as two devices – the parent device is a “Smoke & CO Sensor”, and a child device also shows up as “CO Sensor”. You can create scenes for alerts based on these devices separately, so that you distinguish between CO and Smoke alerts. This unit takes two AA batteries, not a 9V battery which is usually what is expected with smoke alarms. Not that it is very significant, but just more of an FYI. Just a suggestion – don’t use Parameter #1 to enable double alerts because if you do, it will make the child CO Sensor device disappear once the controller writes that parameter to the device. Then you can’t create scenes for smoke and CO separately.

Es muy difícil poder decir si el producto funciona o no porque solo se podrá saber en caso de una emergencia. No obstante se siente de buena calidad y las pilas al parecer duran bastante. El envío de Amazon estupendo!

  12. Scooby128

This smoke detector was easy to install! I easily integrated it with my Ring alarm system. It was even put to the test when we burnt some food and the smoke alarm went off, triggered the Ring alarm and we promptly got a call from the Ring monitoring station.
